"When you think about how much a tourism authority spends on marketing the destination and how it uses its photographs, it simply makes sense to be building on a solid foundation of high quality images."

DAVID SPECIALISES IN WORKING WITH TOURISM AUTHORITIES

David is one of the most widely published tourism photographers in the world. He specialises in working with national, regional and state tourism authorities.

Over more than two decades, David has been repeatedly commission by more than 20 national tourism authorities around the world to deliver high quality photographs to promote their destinations. His photography has been the subject of 16 books, his images are regularly featured in international magazines and newspapers, and he owns the largest On-line photo library dedicated to the South Pacific.

David’s expertise is in capturing world-class photographs of a country to be used for promotional purposes, and building professional photo libraries for tourism authorities that become the foundations of their marketing effort. His images are shot to feature in the full range of promotional collateral used by tourism authorities including posters, billboards, brochures, advertising, internet promotion and point-of-sale material. The customised photo libraries he builds are accessed instantly by international media, travel agents, publishers and tourism industry stakeholders to promote their destination.

While David’s work has been concentrated on the Asia Pacific region, he has been commissioned by tourism authorities on the African continent and The Middle East. Recent assignments have included South Africa and Ethiopia as well as Saudi Arabia.

It is important to recognise that David is a dedicated tourism photographer - this is the only type of photography he does - and that he specialises in working with regional, state and national tourism agencies. Drawing from his earlier background of managing tourism organisations, he understands the range, the quality and the application of the photographs needed to successfully promote a country so his assignments are carefully tailored to deliver the key marketing messages of commissioning tourism bodies.

As you may see from David’s portfolio, his strength as a tourism photographer is in capturing people enjoying themselves without looking staged, and in differentiating a country from its competition according to its strengths - whether it’s the country’s culture, its scenery, its flora and fauna or its man-made attractions.

David’s work covers all aspects of tourism photography. He uses large format camera equipment and he shoots both underwater and drone photography to international standards (click below for short preview).

STANDARD PACKAGES FOR TOURISM AUTHORITIES

Outside of his End-of-Financial-Year Packages, David offers three main options to tourism authorities seeking to commission his services - each of which is tailored to meet the specific needs and resources of the tourism organisation.

This includes a standard  Seven Day Assignment, a Three Assignment Package which provides for three assignments at a discount rate over an extended period of up to three years, and a  30 Day Residential Package in which David resides in the destination and is available to shoot for the tourism authority for the entire 30 day period. The two larger packages are both aimed at producing a comprehensive image library on the destination and includes the option of establishing a self-managed On-Line Photo Library that can be linked to the tourism authority's web site (Refer section below).

Towards the start of each year, David also offers the national tourism authority of just one country outside of the Asia Pacific region a special 10 day  Sponsorship Package. The most recent national tourism authorities to accept this package was the South Africa Tourism Commission and the Saudi Arabia Commission for Tourism and Antiquities.

All of these packages have proved popular, with the resulting bookings seeing David's schedule largely filled for the year ahead.

We suggest you discuss each of these options with David directly to look at availability and which one of these packages is most likely to suit your organisation's needs. David can be contacted at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

HOW WE WORK

David will shoot to your written brief and a pre-conceived Shot List that clearly identifies the message you want conveyed for your destination, the subjects you want shot, the usage of the photographs and their priority. From the outset, David will work with you - drawing from more than a decade of  experience in providing a similar service to other tourism authorities - to help you refine your  Shot List and plan for the most efficient way to deliver an appealing range of images. As David says, "Producing an outstanding range of photographs for a tourism authority is  95% planning,  5% pressing the button." From our initial meeting, the best approach to the assignment will be mapped out and agreed to, ensuring we deliver according to your brief and within the budget allocated. At the completion of the assignment, the best photographs captured will be matched to the Shot List and supplied, a License Agreement will be issued releasing the images to your tourism authority, and a conclusion report will be provided.

WHY CHOOSE DAVID TO PHOTOGRAPH YOUR DESTINATION?

For more than a decade, David has specialised in working with national tourism authorities to capture world-class promotional photographs. The fact that he continues to service tourism authorities throughout the region is testament to the quality of his work and his ability to deliver what he promises.

Some points to consider:

David specialises in Tourism Photography: Tourism photography at this level is a specialised arena and David has continued to excel in the field by working with national tourism authorities for nearly two decades. It needs to be said that tourism photography - unlike travel photography which is more random and opportunistic - is about shooting to a destination's key marketing messages. It's about carefully planning to capture a range of appealing photographs that best define, differentiate and promote a destination. As his extensive portfolio reflects, David's experience counts for a lot when it comes to mastering outdoor light and the unique cultural conditions of different destinations to deliver high quality promotional images. As a tourism photographer who makes his living providing world-class imagery, David uses the very latest camera equipment, including large format and underwater cameras and professional lighting. His reputation as a professional photographer is built singularly around his ability to capture high quality promotional images of people enjoying themselves, set against backdrops which make a destination distinctive and appealing.

He has a fair idea of your business and its likely needs: In another life, David was the CEO of several member-based tourism authorities in Australia (so he knows you haven't got much money and that there is a sympathetic cast of thousands you have to answer to). From a marketing perspective, he knows what sort of images you are likely to want and how you plan to use them. His assignment will be closely tailored to your needs and the objectives of your marketing strategy.

He knows the Asia Pacific region: Over nearly two decades, David has been commissioned by most national tourism authorities in the South Pacific and several tourism authorities in South-East Asia. More recently, he has extended his service into the Middle East and African continent. So he knows the region well and he has learned to adapt to its unique challenges (....anyone familiar with the region will know this is no mean feat).

He offers value for money: David offers a range of special packages customised to the specific needs and budgets of  tourism authorities. He will work with  you - as he's done with all of his clients, many of whom continue their association after more than a decade - to ensure you get the best value for money.

From the sky and in the water: David has the latest drone equipment and he photographs underwater.

The Photographs are yours: In a world where professional photographers are applying all sorts of restrictions to their images, we release the images we supply to a tourism authority for all promotional purposes. At the completion of an assignment, we supply the images and a simple License Agreement which releases the images to your tourism authority for all promotional purposes including supply to media and travel agents and use in all promotional collateral (we could hardly have expected to maintain our relationships this long if we didn't).

He's productive: From early in the morning to late at night, David will be working to ensure your assignment is productive. Like you, he  wants to capture exceptional images - outstanding images that will define your destination for many years to come.

We'll promote your destination for you: David owns an On-Line Photo Library which features the best of the images he captures on assignment. His work is also represented internationally by Getty's Images. Travel magazine editors, travel agents, tour operators, book publishers and creative agencies are increasingly accessing David's images, generating additional publicity for your destination.

We produce souvenir publications: Unless specifically asked not to, David is likely to use the best of his photographs to produce a range of high quality souvenir publications which will promote your destination - at no charge to you  (no advertising is included in the publications. They survive singularly on their commercial merit). Assuming there is a market for such publications on your destination, David's publishing company - Frontier Publications -  will develop a range of souvenir publications at its own expense and provide an option for your tourism authority to generate an income from the activity (To view some of the company's publications click here http://www.kirklandphotos.com/frontier-publications).

He'll give you advice on all things photography: David understands the need for a tourism authority to manage its own image library and circulate its photographs widely so, having captured the images, he will help you establish and manage your own image library, guiding you through the best way to store, protect, improve and circulate your images (Refer On-Line Photo Library Option below).

And, importantly, he'll do what he says he'll do: David prides himself on his professionalism. What he promises, will be delivered on time, within budget and to the highest possible standards. And he'll look to excel and produce exceptional images; every assignment is a new opportunity to produce better photographs than the ones he has captured before.

TOURISM AUTHORITY ON-LINE PHOTO LIBRARIES

Kirklandphotos specialises in producing customised, self-managed, On-Line Photo Libraries - generally of between 300 and 500 images - for tourism authorities which can be directly linked to their web sites, allowing travel agents and media to instantly access high resolution images to promote their destinations. The particular strength of these libraries is that they are created and overseen by professional photographers who are familiar with the high standards and demands of media and publishers. Strict quality control standards are built into every library, ensuring the highest possible standards are maintained in every image, regardless of whether they are provided by David or other photographers. Several tourism authorities in the Asia Pacific region have commissioned our On-Line libraries (samples below), which Kirklandphotos has offered as part of its service since 2008.
