Tourism Authorities

David specialises in working with national tourism authorities throughout the Asia Pacific region to provide images which are used to promote their destinations worldwide.

David started Kirklandphotos.com in 2000. Since then he has been providing services to many tourism authorities to become one of the most widely published and sought after travel photographers in the region. Drawing from his earlier background managing tourism authorities in Australia, David's understanding of a tourism authority's needs, coupled with his abilities as a photographer, sees him in a unique position to produce a world-class range of promotional images suited to the marketing needs of national tourism authorities.

INTRODUCTION TO DAVID KIRKLAND

For more than a decade, David has specialised in working with tourism authorities and he will work with you to develop a cost-effective package to ensure your organisation - regardless of where it is in the world - receives the best possible value for money. With international airfares being as low as they are, no longer are tourism authorities limited to their own "back yard" when it comes to commissioning world-class photography. The objective of a tourism authority competing in the international marketplace today should be to get the best images possible with whatever budget is available.

By considering this site, it should be apparent that David produces a high standard of tourism imagery and that he continues to provide a professional service to a growing number of clients. This is largely because he provides a broad range of skills and experience as a photographer which are particularly suited to working with tourism authorities.

Some points to consider:
  • He doesn't do weddings: David specialises in travel and tourism (not radiating brides, the shanks of Arabian Stallions or politicians kissing babies). His particular skill is in capturing people enjoying themselves, set against backdrops which make a destination distinctive. His forte` is capturing people and places in ways which are appealing to other travelers. His photography interprets the subject, not only records it.
  • He offers value for money: David's standard commercial rate is AUD$1,500 a day, plus expenses, however, he offers special packages - including his Pre-March special package to tourism authorities (details follow) depending on the scope of the work.
  • He's productive: David's reputation, the success of his travel and souvenir publications and his plans to establish the largest tourism photo library on Australia, the South Pacific and South-east Asia means it is as much in his interests as yours to have a productive assignment. Like you, he wants top images. He'll be up before sunrise and working past sunset, and he's likely to do whatever it takes to get the best possible photos of your destination.
  • He's been a tourism authority CEO so he's got a fair idea of your business and its likely needs: David has managed several member based tourism authorities. (He knows you haven't got much money and that there is a sympathetic cast of thousands you have to answer to). Having published a stable of high quality travel guides and worked directly with industry for more than 15 years, David is well familiar with the sort of pictures you require and the issues you have to deal with. His assignment will be closely tailored to your needs and objectives of your marketing strategy.
  • He'll probably get you additional media publicity : David is a widely published travel writer and author. His photographs and travel stories are published in Australian and international media. As the size of his photo library expands, travel editors and travel agents will increasingly access the images in his photo library to promote your destination.
  • He'll generate additional exposure for your destination: The photo library on Kirklandphotos.com is a frequently visited resource by international travel magazines, tour operators, book publishers and creative agencies looking for appealing travel images of the region. The best of the photographs captured of your destination are uploaded to Kirklandphotos.com and made available to an international client base to create additional exposure for your destination.
  • He's likely to publish books and souvenirs which will promote your destination for free: Unless specifically commissioned not to, David is likely to use the best of his photographs to produce a range of high quality publications which will promote your destination - at no charge to you. Assuming there is a market for photographic souvenir publications and travel guides on your destination, David will develop them at his own expense and provide an option for your tourism authority to generate an income from his activities (for more details, click on the sub-heading Income Opportunities to the left of this page)
  • He'll give you advice on all things photographic and publishing: Photography, scanning, manipulation, digital transfer, computer software and image storage etc etc. David recognises that it is as much in his interests as yours for you to have a working knowledge of what's involved in photography and managing your own library. He will guide you through the best way to store, manage, improve and transfer your images and, hopefully, become an on-going resource for your organisation.
  • He'll do what he says he'll do: David prides himself on his professionalism. What he promises will be delivered on time, within budget and to the highest possible standards of quality.

"At the beginning of each year, we offer a special rate to tourism authorities. It saves them money and, with bookings closing by the end of February, we can better organise and schedule our assignments for the year. This package is popular. Last year, our entire schedule for 2009 was largely booked by the March 1 deadline. It represents - by far - the most cost-effective package we offer tourism authorities anytime in the year."

- David Kirkland
